Re: Movement shot of the moment
What're your favorite of decorations and finishings in watch movements, Satin-finishing or Côtes de Genève ?
Satin-finishing : Also known as brushing, satin-finishing consists of coating a metallic surface with miniscule parallel stripes until a clean and consistent finish is achieved. One distinctive feature of this technique is how it catches the light. Discreet, it is used on the less visible parts of the movement, like the edges of the components, but also on cases and straps.
Côtes de Genève : One of the best known watch movement decorations, consisting of an intricate series of wave-like scratches forming parallel lines on plates, bridges and rotors. Also known as Geneva stripes or Geneva waves. Watchmakers from the German region of Glashütte have developed a similar finish technique called Glashütte Ribbing.
