Buren cal. 03 - transmission but no engine?

Post by atkin68 »

Can someone tell me what I’ve got here? My son found a lot of them in a shop and grabbed them for me not knowing what they were. I’m wondering how these were used. Obviously the gear below the center wheel must have mated to an external drive. Dashboard clock?

Interesting one! Buren started in 1898 and produced pocket watches of all types and table clocks. The 'Büren Watch Co' signature was used from 1916 and the company was sold to Hamilton in 1966 and quickly became the manufacturer of the majority of Hamilton watches outside the US. I have seen a Cal 03 in a pocket watch case, but with this exposed gearing it may have been adapted for a car or perhaps an early aircraft dashboard.

It looks as if there is one wheel "missing" on the train bridge, wonder what this was used in....
