Just apply a little pressure to the crown and it will let go of the stem.

A while ago I bought an AliExpress special. Cali dial 6497 I've hardly used it but the other day I wound it and the crown felt as if it were slipping now taking a closer look the crown wheel appears to have slipped below the main spring ratchet wheel. Is it just a case of the crown wheel needing the centre screw slightly loosening or the rachet wheel center screw slightly tightening? Or is there something else needs looking at?

Broken main spring? I would remove the movement and check all parts.

Main spring ratchet wheel needed slightly less than a quarter turn. Worthwhile getting that set of AliExpress case back removers... result!

Hi,

Speaking of stems, I have a further question: I have always used the same type of stem for 6497/8 and ST36, ST3620 and everything was OK.

But I've recently had the problem that in two of my projects (movements are: 1x 6497 and 1x ST36) the stems jumped out.

FYI: I ordered a set of 5 from China some time ago (that could be the problem), but I'm almost sure that I have also used a NOS.

Why I'm asking now:
I've read that the stems are not the same.

Although if you check at ranft.de the same stem (W1418) can be used for 6497 and 6498

What is now correct and why do they jump after 10x out?
Many thanks [emoji120]

Unitas/ETA 6497/98 is the same, it also fits Hamilton 10 size movements.

Regarding the rest, I don't know.

The only difference I've seen between -97 and -98 stems is the place where the setting lever stud rides - I think / have read that this is due to the type of case that the -98 came in, so you can press the crown to release the pocket watch case cover? I'm not sure on that, but the stems are different in this area. Here's an image from a seller who shows the difference:
