Is this 8 day movement?

Post by sazabi2001 »

I saw quite a few of them on eBay, usually on a bit high end watch / clock. Seems like 1 more wheel compared to normal pocket watch movement. So in wondering if it’s a 5 day or 8 day movement.

It’s not on my radar… 9x out of 10, an 8 day movements will have “8 Days” printed on the dial…

That said, I’ve been wrong before

Yes, typical 8 day movement usually printed ‘8 days’ on the dial. But other typical mechanical sign are one more wheels on main bridge and one more reduction gear on winding section.

I just wondering what that extra wheel does in this movement.

both following movements are smaller than SF240

for reference .... here is an 8-day "Concord"

.
here is a pre-SF240 Angelus 8 day (sitting inside a 44mm case) ... these are mainly seen as Lemania 8 Day and maybe Mathey & Tissot .. few members here have used these movements

Way to late, but... no, this is not 8 day movt. It's Tavannes so called "Pleiade" movement (cal. 700?) - additional wheel is used to make the movement thinner, not power reserve longer.
