Attaching Tubes to hands! HELP!!!!

Post by Thrasher »

So as some of you know my Depth Gauge watch project has hit a little snag..... NO TUBES !!!!!!

I have a beautiful Depth Gauge dial and HandSet made by rmcsherry "ROSS" and black_shark and the hands have no tubes!!!!!

So I need to find someone to attach tubes to fit a Molnija 3602. Probably long tubes to be on the safe side like on these hands sold by River AKA TPS Tempus on eBay

Sorry to keep asking you guys for help. Since the hands are already finished and lumed, my uneducated guess would be that soldering is out of the question. You’re basically „stuck“ with adhesive or friction... I don’t think it‘s too hard to do given one has the right tubes.
If it were my project, I‘d go with epoxy.

+1

Friction is the typical solution for tall tube hands nowadays but that's not an easy task.

I would use Epoxy resin too.

I thought the best solution would be to try to get someone to make tall cp hw for the molnija. In fact I'm also looking for someone who can do it.

I have done two builds with those Ross hands. You have two options. I went with option 2

1. Get a set of donor hands and solder the tubes on
2. Leave them as is and broach them. You may need talk CP/HW but not necessarily. I didn’t. The broaching works nicely as they are pressure fit.

That's what Ross himself recommends Image

I'm guessing he is using a somewhat thick dial.

This is all excellent input , Thank You.

Ross this morning answered my PM saying they should be thick enough to brooch.....So we will see for ourselves!

unreformed66 hoping one of these solutions works.
