As for thin lines, I can do better, hairlines.
Rolex original gilt process was:
1. Polished brass plate
2. The design to be gilt was pad-printed with a reserve ink.
3. The black coating was applied with galvanic process (design is protected by reserve ink, non conductive)
4. Reserve ink was dissolved, to reveal the brass.
5. A final protective coating was applied, most probably a cellulosic varnish (deduced from spider hairlines cracks on some aged dials)
