Now you made me curious.
What is special about an architects mat?
It can be cut and it will heal itself. Soft and often green as they say that is the best for the eyes. Not cheap, but good and it will last for a long time.
Interesting. Did‘nt know that. Cheers.
They are called cutting mats. The downside is that the surface is not as soft as rubber, more like hard plastic but flexible.

What I can see is you made larger hand-wheels, added coolant and removed a lot of the housing... did you have to alter anything regarding the spindle bearing or so?

Changed bearings to tapered. New longer traversal leadscrew. Linger housing for it.
Same for small compound.
Added bearings to those housings.
In headstock, i removed runner so spindle is direct driven by dc brushless motor.
Bigger chuck and backplate.
Modified tailstock locking and added bearings at handwheel.
Raised whole lathe at cast iron feet.
Also added tapered gibs at saddle.
Drilled chip plate, added coolant reservoir and pump.
Made modifications to gears transmission and plate where they reside but it still need some tweaks.
Added carrier ring for dividing plates at spindle...
Made new steel QCTP....
And stainless steel wheels
