When I was in York, UK a couple weeks ago there were a bunch of watch shops. I stopped in to look at Panerai offerings and well… they looked, um… kinda boring by comparison? Maybe I’m just spoiled by all of the excellent photography and creative builds here but in the AD under the perfect display lighting I was expecting to be amazed.
Agreed - too many modern models just look boring.
At the same time, it is worth noting that Panerai has chosen a good tactic by releasing a small series of vintage-style models (patinated steel, aged e-steel), textured and gradient dials, vintage hands, etc. This way they kill two birds with one stone - 1. retain and expand the customer base and 2. asian reps manufacturers are rather slow when it comes to the vintage theme
