VDB are actually two men... one who was a member of old HF, i had a good relationship with him and bought VDB parts from him... i have a VDB plexi among my hoard of stuff

Tanukjaju, you laugh at this but that is because you don't understand the history. It is a little known fact that the Italian frogmen were addicted to A1 steak sauce. With war rations meager, and most people getting a few potatoes or a little bread with some small piece of boiled chicken, A1 sauce was highly prized for adding flavor to otherwise bland food. Frogmen were privileged to be allotted one bottle a week in addition to their few lire, which made them extremely popular with the local women. With little currency or food available, A1 was as good as gold.

It turns out that A1 was highly corrosive to the lead seals on their dive watches, and was responsible for gumming up the movements and discoloring the dials. It was especially damaging to the plastic rivet dials issued on all the original 3646 A and B watches. Panerai watchmakers were constantly servicing the movements to remove A1 sauce, and almost all the original rivet dials were badly warped by the sauce and had to be replaced with hardier sandwich dials, which weren't as badly degraded. However, the plexi inserts were still prone to premature aging and discoloration to a distinctive red shade by the sauce, and the original black face paint was discolored and faded to shades of brown.

This is a little known chapter in Panerai history that was known to VDB, who produced faithfully aged vintage Panerai homages.

No, like frying pan. This is my latest homage to a vintage All Clad. It uses a Silix head and Athaya handle. I custom aged it.

It was only a matter of time before those crazy conspiratorial A1 truthers found their way to this forum, trying to co-opt the real true culprit for the staining of those frogman dials: tomato sauce.
