How many watches is too many?

I heard this in regards to another hobby that I enjoy and thought it applied equally to watches:

The correct number of watches one should own (W) can be represented by the equation:

N+1=W

Where N is equal to the number of watches you currently own.

You can also represent W with a second equation:

S-1=W

Where S represents the number of watches that is the breaking point for your significant other at which they will pack up and leave.

I hope this simple math makes everyone’s life easier and eliminates the concern of “how do I know when I have too many watches”

Thank you for your time.

After doing some careful calculations I have come to the conclusion that your highly elaborate piece of mathematics might, as well as perfectly describing the amount of watches to own, relate to hoarding... excuse me... „collecting“ things as maybe guitars as well - putting my, upto today, painstakingly adhered to assumtion of „seven‘s enough - one for every day“ at shame!

Thank you for taking this load off of me - you now are my hero!

Could the mathematical nerds please relate N to S and make W approach infinity? A lifelong dilemma could be solved that way...

I prefer N to be represented by the number of watches she thinks you own ....

Pfff, do as I do, don't count them so you don't know how many

Problem solved

ME counting is not the problem...

I think mathematician members need to sit down and work out a ‘reasonable’ algorithm. All i know is that if I take my eye off the box, watches multiply overnight.

Im reminded of the old saying

Q “how do end up with a small fortune from watch collecting?”
A “start out with a large fortune”

I don't know how many watches I have...it's more than ten for sure but definitely not enough :D

I do like the equations.
Because N+1 = S-1
Hence S =N+1 +1
Thus S=N+2

This is great news.
I can always buy two additional watches before my relationship breaks :-)
