Does anyone have tips on best way to “crimp” the tubes for compression fit lug bars?
When I put the bar in the tube and using tool to crimp. The indent is not tight enough. The bar slides through.
When I crimp without bar in the tube. It gets too tight and bar won’t slide through.
Thanks for your help.

I've experienced the same frustration. Using a somewhat sharper tool with the bar in the tube as worked for me. I use a small channel lock, but I turn the tube at about a 45 degree angle to the teeth so they bite in a little more. Have to give it a pretty good squeeze.

I have used a stake in the staking set and simply made a "ding" in middle of the tube. I fitted a wooden pin inside to prevent the tube from collapsing.

I am glad it I am not the only one with this issue. I felt stupid to even ask.
A wooden rod is a good idea. It will give just enough.

I forgot to mention that I used bamboo as it doesn't break easily. A thinner steel rod will do the same, you will obtain the needed friction.

You dont have to crimp a bar to hold in the tube just give the bar a SLIGHT bend in the middle.Easy, controlled, never moving
