EBay loophole?

I typically bidding quite a lot on EBay, mostly watch related stuffs. Since you bided / bought something eBay will then recommend you to see similar thing. I found out something I bided before listed again by someone else, usually with a clearer photo and triple the price.

I then tried a few times in the same way, bided it and sell it again.. Mostly pocket watch, which the original bidding doesn’t included a movement shot. I bought some, took movement shots and sell them for a lot higher, and they do sell well, usually sold within 2 weeks.

I have to confess I do enjoy it, not that the extra money from the sales , since eBay and PayPal will take a cut from you and you don’t really earn a lot. But it’s the feeling that I gamble with my knowledge, and some watches are easy guesses of what movement inside. I mean pocket watches is the only thing I can just buy and sell on eBay and make a profit. Other stuff such as camera and hifi you’ll be lucky if you don’t lose a lot by reselling it on eBay.

I would say you are making educated guesses and then reselling with the correct movement information that others havent bothered to learn. It pays to be educated, knowledge is everything. I have bought Rolex transitional models from jewelers and pawn brokers like this, they didn't fully understand what they had and so I would buy what they had and flip it. Often making 50% over what I paid and these were mostly cash deals.

@sazabi2001 , nicely done - my goal with this hobby is to break even. Looks like you’ve even found a way to make some extra side income.

I did the same thing in the past. I gambled on 6497s, would pick them up for $15-$20. I never sold them, just gambled for my watch builds but it was fun to see what you got when it arrived.

I have a friend that is big into sports cards. He will search for mis-spellings in the title on valuable cards. Typically these cards go for a steal because they are not found when people search for the correct spelling. He's cleaning up by reselling them.
