I was willing to work on copper, so when I found this design, I knew that Barbarossa was born!

CASE: Aliexpress Seiko case

CROWN: Laser engraved, metallic paint filled

CASEBACK: laser engraved + annealed + paint filled text

BEZEL INSERT: Homemade design, pure copper, same treatment as dial

DIAL: 0.5mm pure copper
Design: Modified the beard to wrap around indexes dots.
Laser engraved with several layers to create depth effect + grain on background.
polished details, rounded some edges…
Then chemical oxidations partially soften.
This dial was a real challenge to combine several oxidations tints and shades. I had to detail it with XS swabs and play with various acids.
Copper areas repolished after oxidation, then some slightly oxidated again to reduce shine, create shadows…
Indexes are carved in the mass, filled with Superluminova C3

HANDS: Aliexpress relumed with Superluminova C3
BRACELET: Terribly shinny mesh, dull brushed row by row.

In the end, this watch is my favorite build so far, you can see it has been worn a lot.
It has amazing reflections under natural light, so fascinating, it is alive!

Oh wow… you are most definitely an artist! I’m in awe of how your dial looks like it’s embossed.

What are the differences when using a laser on copper vs brass?

Edit: just noticed the crown

Thanks!
Each metal need different settings,
brass is one of the most reflective, so it 'reflect' most of the laser beam power.
Copper is more laser friendly, and the easiest metal is aluminum.

I guess I can achieve finest details than embossing process.

The details are fantastic. The execution, perfection.
I wish we could watch your processes at work.
