One of my fun projects, a Molnija 3602 balancer running on a Unitas 285 (pre UT6497) movement.

Well, quite a lot. 3602 is Breguet hairspring, so some more work needs to be done.wwwEvgeny wrote: ↑August 25th, 2025, 6:40 amamazing! does it need much modifications?sazabi2001 wrote: ↑August 24th, 2025, 11:07 pm One of my fun projects, a Molnija 3602 balancer running on a Unitas 285 (pre UT6497) movement.

The 3602 hairspring stud is in different size, so the hole on the balancer cock needs to be enlarged, and it’ll be better to move the hole inwards, since the 3603 Breguet hairspring has a smaller radius. It’ll also need to cut a small channel for the hairspring to sit higher.
The roller on the balancer needs to be swapped too, the stone on the roller is in different position, also different height. The 3602 roller has a larger hole, so to use the roller from UT285 it’ll need to enlarge the hole a little bit. Luckily, 3602 and UT285 balancer wheel almost in the same height, so swapping the roller would be enough.
The last thing is the hairspring pin, it’ll need to drill a hole on the regulator, hammer a new pin in the inward position, and turn the flat-spring regulator into a overcoil-spring regulator:
I just wanted to try a Breguet hairspring, in fact the amount of work would be way more than just to buy a Breguet version movement (usually Timor UT285).
And here is the outcome:
