there are tell tale signs which many of us observe for the clock.

the diameter of the clock is a first indication.

the knobs on the back of the clock are a sure indication of whether it is 240 or 190. a 240 movement have smaller knobs and mounting screw. the back case is mounted on with 3 small screws.

the stem wind crown is slightly different design between a 240 and 190, even the clock hands are slightly different design if you observe closer the minute hand.

examples of non 240 clocks.

The hands is a lead too. SF240 has hands with either a round profile at the center, or a tiny pointy part.

The larger non SF240 has a square part.

what Yoda is referring to is this one. note the extra extension on the minute/hour hand compare to the 240 hands.

also note the winding crown is different.

also one of the screw on caseback must be pointed directly to crown.
when crown is pointed between two screws then movement is SF190

Great information Gentlemen! I have bought a couple of the clocks and both had a 190 in them. Both under 100 USD. This information should help me not do that anymore.

a very good advice for you is, if no one is bidding on it then it is probably not an Angelus 240 clock coz there are too many hunters here on the lookout.

To add to the good information already provided, there are at least three well known types of Angelus SF hands.

The first is the one with the tiny pointy part at the center, the flag.

The second is the flat type, sometimes this type can be the blued version.

The third is the curved type, gold plated.

The one with the square part in the end is the 190, stear clear of that one unless you want a travel clock.
