I usually place the hands with a plastic tweezer, cover them with cling film and press with a soft rubber tool.

ill try that ... I was using Rodico on a toothpick to grab and position the hands, but the blue rodico may leave a film on good hands

I use common tweezers, just put plastic bag on top... For small hands, use other end of tweezers...

Using tweezers made of harder material than the hands you risk scratching the hands. I'm with Emilio here; plastic is better. Clean piece of Rodico will take the smudge right off with a sweep once the hands are set.

Yes, that is the correct way.. Hence, I use plastic bags to protect hands... Or brass tweezers... Also have small press with plastic inserts but use them only on sensitive stuff..straps68 wrote:Using tweezers made of harder material than the hands you risk scratching the hands. I would scratch the dial with the tweezers in the link.
I just use rodico, wooden toothpick or both to place hands. Then press on with plastic tips from a hand press.

I use a good polished Dumont #5 and a Horotec hand setting tool for delicate work, place the movement under it and press with a suitable nylon tip.
Regarding the prices, one of my tweezers was close to $80 even if it was from the 1930s...
