Re: What are you working on now?
As you know I've been disconnected for a while, several projects had been on hold forever, hopefully I will be able to finish some of them soon.

Re: What are you working on now?
I’ve been toying with the idea of making my own set of antimagnetic watchmakers screwdrivers for a while. Now that my lathe is up and running I went and made a trial piece.

It’s 5mm brass rod (needs knurling still) and a 1mm grade 5 titanium blade fixed with an m2 set screw (needs shortening). It‘ll get a spinning ebony endcap. I‘ve got titanium rod in various thickness to make the different blades and many different kinds of hard wood from knifemaking for all sorts of colors
I‘m really interested how well the titanium will hold up... a fun side project while waiting for the lume to dry

You may find that titanium is too brittle, but I am not familiar with titanium. I have heard that it is very durable.Phaedros wrote: ↑April 7th, 2021, 1:36 pm I’ve been toying with the idea of making my own set of antimagnetic watchmakers screwdrivers for a while. I suggest that you try on screws outside a movement to test the strength.

Re: What are you working on now?
Grade 5 is pretty nice, it’s the springiest kind, still retains the tensile strength. I‘m in good faith it will do the job nicely. Durability is excellent, I‘m mostly concerned about edge holding capability...Yoda wrote: ↑April 7th, 2021, 1:53 pmYou may find that titanium is too brittle, but I am not familiar with titanium. Re: What are you working on now?
I’m working on restoring a lovely Heure Carrera 1153bn but try as I might I can’t find any original hands
http://www.onthedash.com/wp-content/upl ... NThird.jpg
They are third execution and at 2mm wide are providing a stumbling block to finishing
I’m even considering having some made but can’t find anyone who specialises
Might anyone be able to help?
Cheers
