Communication is a two-way street, you did your part but how much else can you do? Unless they provided you alternative contact info, there isn't much else to do other than wait. A year is a bit excessive in my opinion but who knows what could be going on in that individual's life.

My Dry Cleaner has wedding dress's up on a shelf that have been abandoned , The oldest has been up there 20 years. She has at least 10 of them. Customers bring stuff in and never come back. I really dont think it's incumbent upon you to search these people out. Perhaps look up laws related to abandoned property in your country as well as some others and set an average above your country , after that time is expired they are yours.
