Help identification of a pocket watch with an "A" brand

Post by sazabi2001 »

Saw this coming to a local antique store, asking for £65 (about $90). It's a slim watch that looks a bit like Tellus / Cortebert, but the case is quite poor material so would not be a high-grade thing. I checked and it isn't Aplina. Sadly the shop can't let me open the watch so I can't see the movement, The watch without the dome crystal would be about 6-7mm thick, so I guess it a 3-4mm thick movement.

Does anybody have any idea about the brand?

Too many unknowns for $90….

I can only say it’s not likely a 6497/8… those tend to say incabloc or 17 jewels.

It’s hard to sell a pocket watch without seeing the inside IMO. Might be in crap condition inside. Rust….I can think of so many possible problems even if it’s a desirable movement.

Weird that you can't see the movement....!?

The A on the dial is not necessarily the maker, it is more likely that it is the brand.

My private opinion is that I walk away if I am not allowed to see the movement.

Like selling a car but refusing to allow a test drive. Considering the case it is in, they've got no basis for pricing without knowing what's inside.

Are you sure, I mean that they also produced Alpina if I am not very much mistaken?

Ok. I’ll try next time and ask again to open the case. From the look of it, it’s a 50mm watch, and the distance between second dial and hour/minute hole it wouldn’t be 616 type 36mm movement, maybe a 40-43mm movement.
